Hours to Decimal Calculator
Paste your hours and minutes, one entry per line, and get every line as decimal hours plus a running total. Made for adding up a week of daily hours for a timesheet or invoice.
Use h:mm, like 7:45. Separate entries with new lines, commas or spaces.
Convert exactly, then round the decimal to 2 places (7:20 → 7.33).
Total decimal hours
22.84hours
22:50 worked across 3 entries
| Entry | Decimal hours | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 8:15 | 8.25 | |
| 7:40 | 7.67 | |
| 6:55 | 6.92 |
How it works
Convert each entry to decimal hours, then add the decimals. This tool rounds each line the way you choose and adds the rounded values, so the total always matches what you see on the lines above it.
Worked example: Total 8:15, 7:40 and 6:55
- 8:15 = 8.25
- 7:40 = 7.67
- 6:55 = 6.92
- Add the lines: 8.25 + 7.67 + 6.92 = 22.84
22:50 worked = 22.84 hours (22.83 if you round only the grand total)

Frequently asked questions
How do I add hours and minutes as decimals?
Convert each entry to decimal hours (minutes ÷ 60 plus hours) and add the results. Paste all your entries into the box above and the total is worked out for you.
Should I round each day or only the weekly total?
It depends on how you are paid or how you invoice. This tool rounds each line, then adds. In the example above that gives 22.84 instead of 22.83. Choose exact mode to keep full precision and round once at the end.
What format should the entries be in?
Use h:mm, for example 7:45, with two-digit minutes. Separate entries with new lines, commas, semicolons or spaces. Anything that is not a valid time is flagged and left out of the total.
How do I enter 7 hours 45 minutes?
Type 7:45. That is 7.75 decimal hours.
Can I paste a column from a spreadsheet?
Yes. A column of durations formatted as h:mm pastes as one entry per line. Clock times with AM or PM are not durations, so use the timesheet calculator for those.
