Decimal Hours Calculator

Turn decimal hours such as 7.75 into hours and minutes (7:45). It works above 24 hours and also shows the seconds, so you can see exactly where the minutes come from.

Try:

Hours and minutes

7:45h:mm

With seconds: 7:45:00

Total minutes: 465

How it works

The whole number is the hours. Multiply the decimal part by 60 to get minutes, then multiply any leftover fraction of a minute by 60 again to get seconds.

minutes = decimal part × 60

Worked example: Convert 7.33 hours

  1. Whole hours: 7
  2. 0.33 × 60 = 19.8 minutes
  3. 0.8 of a minute × 60 = 48 seconds

7.33 hours = 7:19:48, which rounds to 7:20
